Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 23 August 2026

1. Acceptance

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern access to and use of Hackemics websites, dashboards, and related services (the "Platform"). By creating an account or using the Platform, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Hackemics.

The Platform is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] ("Hackemics", "we", "us"). Contact: [PRIVACY CONTACT EMAIL]. Address: [REGISTERED ADDRESS].

2. Eligibility

You must be able to form a binding contract under applicable law. The Platform is intended for college students and companies posting or reviewing challenges. If you use Hackemics on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you are authorised to bind that organisation.

3. Student accounts

Students may create an account with an email, password, and display name, and may add university, bio, skills, avatar URL, and related profile information. You are responsible for the accuracy of information you provide and for activity under your account.

4. Company accounts

Companies may create an account with organisation details and post challenges, review submissions, and manage company profile information. You must have authority to act for the organisation named on the account.

5. Account security

Keep your password confidential. Notify us promptly of suspected unauthorised access. We may revoke sessions, require password resets, or suspend accounts to protect the Platform or other users.

6. Challenge registration

Students may join challenges that are open for registration under the Platform's challenge lifecycle rules. Joining creates a participation record tied to your student profile and the challenge.

7. Challenge participation

Participation means following the challenge brief, timelines, and submission requirements shown in the product. Features such as unlocking private briefs or assets may depend on challenge state and your join status.

8. Submission rules

Submissions must be your own work (or work you are authorised to submit), must follow the allowed formats for the challenge, and must not contain malware, illegal content, or material that infringes others' rights. You are responsible for links and files you submit.

9. Student ownership of submitted work

As between you and Hackemics, you retain ownership of original work you submit, subject to the licences you grant below and any separate agreement you make with a company. Hackemics does not claim ownership of your portfolio content solely because you uploaded links or notes to the Platform.

10. Company access to submissions

By submitting to a challenge, you grant the company that owns that challenge a licence to access, review, download (where applicable), and evaluate your submission for the purposes of running and judging that challenge, including recruitment-related evaluation related to the challenge.

11. Ratings, feedback, shortlisting, and winners

Companies may rate submissions (score and optional feedback) and mark shortlisted or winner status according to product rules. Ratings associated with a submission may be shown to the submitting student. Company review decisions are made by the company, not by Hackemics, and may be limited or immutable after creation as implemented in the product.

12. Hiring and recruitment use

Companies may use challenge participation and submissions as part of talent evaluation. Hackemics does not guarantee interviews, offers, or employment. Any hiring relationship is solely between the student and the company.

13. Prohibited conduct

You must not:

  • Harass, abuse, or discriminate against other users
  • Attempt to access accounts, data, or systems without authorisation
  • Interfere with Platform availability or security
  • Misrepresent your identity, affiliation, or work
  • Use the Platform for unlawful purposes

14. Cheating, plagiarism, impersonation, and abuse

Plagiarism, submitting others' work without authorisation, collusion where prohibited, impersonation, and abuse of rating or participation features are forbidden. We may remove content, suspend accounts, or take other action we reasonably consider appropriate.

15. Challenge changes and cancellation

Companies and Hackemics may update challenge details, schedules, or state (for example draft, scheduled, live, closed, archived) as supported by the product. Challenges may be cancelled or closed. We are not liable for lost opportunity arising from such changes.

16. Rewards and XP

The Platform may display XP, levels, streaks, badges, or similar progress indicators. These are product features for engagement and portfolio signalling unless a specific challenge expressly states a separate prize or reward with its own terms. XP and badges do not create a cash entitlement unless separately promised in writing for a particular challenge.

17. Intellectual property

Hackemics branding, UI, and Platform software are owned by us or our licensors. Company challenge briefs and assets remain the company's (or their licensors') property. You grant Hackemics a non-exclusive licence to host, display, and process content you upload as needed to operate the Platform.

18. Platform availability

We aim to keep Hackemics available but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. Features may change as we iterate the MVP.

19. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms, create risk to others, or if we discontinue the service. You may stop using the Platform at any time.

20. Account deletion

Students may delete their account in Settings. Deletion removes student-owned account data according to the current database design, including submissions and related ratings. Company challenges are not deleted when a student leaves. See the Privacy Policy for details.

21. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The Platform is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that challenges, reviews, or hiring outcomes will meet your expectations. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Hackemics is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or opportunities arising from use of the Platform.

22. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date will change when we do. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms, except where applicable law requires otherwise.

23. Contact

Questions about these Terms: [PRIVACY CONTACT EMAIL]. Postal address: [REGISTERED ADDRESS].

Governing law / jurisdiction will be stated here once [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] confirms the applicable jurisdiction for the operating entity.
